Veterum Tinajas BOBAL

Veterum Tinajas is one of the Coviñas Group’s new products for 2024, a truly limited-edition wine that pays tribute to the region’s time-honoured winemaking tradition.

This unique wine, which has been on sale for several weeks now, is made exclusively from the Bobal grape, the signature native grape of the Utiel-Requena D.O., from the oldest and most highly prized vineyards among Coviñas members.

Veterum Tinajas was created with wine-lovers and collectors in mind, people who particularly value wines with identity and a strong sense of place. This limited-edition product, with comparatively few bottles in circulation, has been carefully vinified using traditional techniques and then aged in earthenware vessels or “tinajas”, an age-old method that gives the wine its name. This artisanal ageing process, coupled with working with grapevines that are over 70 years old, gives the wine exceptional complexity and depth, a true expression of the unique terroir of the region.

Old-vine Bobal, the undisputed star of the show
The Bobal grapes for this special release, grown in the oldest plots held by Coviñas partners, were meticulously selected. These old vineyards, which have withstood the passage of time in very demanding climate and soil conditions, give fruit of extraordinary quality, characterised by remarkable concentration and structure. These characteristics give Veterum Tinajas its complex aromas, combining notes of ripe fruit and Mediterranean herbs against a mineral background that truly expresses the clay and stony soil of Utiel-Requena.

A tribute to the region’s wine traditions
With Veterum Tinajas, Grupo Coviñas seeks not only to offer a genuinely high-quality wine, but also to honour the cultural and winemaking roots of the Valencia region. The choice of earthenware vessels for ageing the wine is a tribute to the age-old techniques that have been part and parcel of winemaking in the region for centuries. This method allows the wine to mature by means of natural micro-oxygenation, giving it a silky texture and balanced structure which will captivate wine-lovers in search of authenticity and tradition.
